Many Washington voters do not vote in judicial races, or do so with little information. More than ever, decisions handed down by Washington state courts are impacting hospitals and health systems.
At the direction of WSHA’s Board and Public Policy Committee, WSHA and the Hospitals for a Healthy Future PAC are increasing work in judicial education and advocacy. This year, five of nine Washington State Supreme Court seats are up for election.
The Hospitals for a Healthy Future PAC is active in three of the most important races and is providing opportunities for members to meet the supported candidates. HHFPAC supports Judge Mike Diaz, Judge Sean O’Donnell and Justice Colleen Melody.
Look for email invitations for WSHA members to join forums with these candidates soon. These forums will provide an opportunity to discuss the importance of hospitals in communities statewide and how the court system impacts access to care and the stability of the delivery system.
We also encourage you to submit your primary ballot by Aug. 4. You should have received your ballot by now. Every registered voter in the state has the opportunity to vote in all the Supreme Court races – they are not elected by district.
